TN approaches!

So the holiday weekend is over. The in-law kin has gone back home.

And it's back to focusing on work.

Putting together a major article on the history of the Cowboy Mounted Shooting Association. You'd think it would be easy--but no. A lot of the early dates (it goes back all the way to the 1980s, and yes I'm being ironic) are in dispute. Different folks have different recollections about who did what, when, where and why. And there's no documentary evidence to prove or disprove most of it.

Call in the history detectives.

Anyway, we're also getting ready to head to Murfreesboro, TN, for the Eastern US Championships. I know the town well. It used to be a speed trap for folks heading to and from FL. My dad was stopped on two separate occasions--and fumed about it for years. Hopefully, things have changed--and the only speed we'll be concerned with is in the competition arenas.

This promises to be a big shoot. While mounted shooting sounds like a Western sport, the strongest and fastest growing geographic regions are the Midwest and East. So we won't be the only Hoosiers making the southward trek, not by a long shot. And the homestate Tennesseans are a loud and rowdy bunch (and very good shooters), so this should be fun.

My boss Ken is coming in from New Mexico, so we'll have more strategizing meetings. We are starting to plan several issues ahead, and that's a good thing. We're just hitting our first anniversary (happy birthday to us)...and it's been a bit of a scramble to get each magazine out. That should let up some. We've alread got a number of interviews in the can for future articles. I'll tell you about a few of them in later posts.
