Kenda Lenseigne Joins Circle Y’s Team of Champions
Cowgirl designs saddle specifically for Cowboy Mounted Shooting

2007 & 2008 CMSA Reserve World Champion Cowgirl Kenda Lenseigne and Circle Y Saddles have teamed to create the Quick Shot, a saddle designed specifically for Cowboy Mounted Shooting.

Kenda, one of mounted shooting’s top competitors, sat down with the leading saddle maker in a step-by-step design process bringing her insight into every facet of the saddle.

“Circle Y has listened to the needs of our shooting competitors and has designed a saddle with these features,” said Kenda. “It will definitely help many riders improve their skills.”

The Circle Y Flex2® tree conforms to the horse and allows for freedom of movement. The saddle’s light weight and shock absorbing skirt further help horses perform at their best. A roughout seat jockey and fender, and a suede seat, help hold the rider’s position. The adjustable stirrup leather position strap determines the amount of leg swing the rider prefers. The swell of the saddle is low and the forward tilted horn allows for maximum clearance for the two guns and holsters which riders carry. A complete line of Circle Y Shooting Saddles will soon be added to the Circle Y line of quality saddles and tack.

“Circle Y is honored to have Kenda on our Team of Champions,” said Mark Jemelka, General Manager of Circle Y Saddles. “She represents the best in this unique sport of mounted shooting and Circle Y is lucky to have her.”

Circle Y saddles and tack are sold through a network of authorized Circle Y dealers. For a list of dealers or to ask for a free Circle Y catalog, visit www.circley.com.

AQHA Region six to Award Top Mounted Shooting Quarter Horses

You could say New England is ahead of the game when it comes to recognizing top Quarter Horses. Beginning this year, AQHA Region 6 will honor the High Point Cowboy Mounted Shooting Rider/Quarter Horse team in each Quarter Horse affiliate in the Region (Connecticut, Massachusetts, Vermont, New Hampshire, Maine, Quebec and the Maritimes).

Karin Page, Director for AQHA Region 6, created this program to help promote the Quarter Horse in Mounted Shooting.

She says, “With such a large percentage of Quarter Horses being used in the sport, it seemed like a great way to get Mounted Shooters involved in the largest breed association in the world. With over 350,000 members, the American Quarter Horse Association is a force in the equine industry.  The alliance formed last year between AQHA and CMSA is a great step in bringing the two organizations even greater recognition.”

The AQHA Region 6 awards will be given to the horse/rider team from each affiliate who accumulates the most points, based on the CMSA system, at matches in Region 6. To qualify, the rider must be a member of the Affiliate Quarter Horse Association in which they reside, must be a member of CMSA and must compete on an AQHA-registered Quarter Horse.

Sign-up sheets must be filled out so qualifications can be confirmed and points tracked. There’s no cost for registration.

Last year, the New Hampshire Quarter Horse Association offered a similar award and noticed a dramatic increase in members who competed in Cowboy Mounted Shooting. With such positive results, the program was adopted regionally and is already proving to be successful.

Page says, “By exposing the families involved in AQHA shows to Cowboy Mounted Shooting, we’ve given husbands, wives, dads, moms and siblings their own sport to compete in.  Now there’s more to shoot for in AQHA Region 6 for Mounted Shooting!”

Those interested in starting programs in their regions should contact Page at kpage@nhqha.com for more information.

For many cowboys, jewelry is relegated to wedding rings

Did you ever consider a money clip a piece of jewelry? Santa Fe artist Richard Stump has come up with items for Cowboys outside of the traditional accoutrement.

Among other things, Richard Stump is a horse trainer. “My inspiration comes from creating animal figures or themes that reflect my own experience.”

Stump hand fabricates every piece that comes out of his studio including artistic money clips. Working in both silver and gold, he does not cast his pieces but rather cuts everything by hand. The engraving, too, is done by hand.

His money clips, belt buckles and jewelry are available at the R. Stump/J. Rippel gallery in Santa Fe. See Stump’s fine collections at www.rstumpdesigns.com.

FLIES BE GONE IS MILITARY TESTED
Department of Defense uses horse related product to protect troops

The common fly is one of Mother Nature’s most dangerous creations, because that little fly - and his nameless billions of relatives - aids in the transmission of more than 65 harmful human diseases.

Nowhere is this fly danger more acute than among United States Armed Forces personnel stationed in Iraq and Afghanistan-two of the world’s highest infestation areas. For both security and health reasons, often pesticides were not a viable option for protecting our people in uniform. Fortunately, the U.S. Department of Defense was able to turn to an amazingly effective answer to protecting the lives and well-being of the troops - non-poisonous Flies Be Gone traps World-renowned pest control expert Rocco Moschetti testified that he used Flies Be Gone safely and effectively for nearly two years under some of the harshest conditions imaginable. At Camp Fallujah, Flies Be Gone was the only fly-control method available due to regulations restricting spraying.

orking alone, the Flies Be Gone traps allowed U.S. troops to work and eat in a healthy, fly-free environment without the need for toxic pesticides. In recognition of its amazing effectiveness, Flies be Gone was designated the Department of Defense’s prestigious NSN 3740-01-523-0708.

Only the size of a football, each trap catches thousands of flies. The easy-to-use device is disposable and requires no maintenance. Each unit comes complete with a protein-based natural fly food called Ultra Biomass. Used outdoors, Flies be Gone provides a strategically effective perimeter defense covering a large area.

Flies Be Gone is being used extensively on horse ranches, kennels and zoos. Since Flies be Gone has no pesticides, it is perfect for protection where children and animals are present. The company motto of "18 Billion Flies Can’t Be Wrong." Visit www.MonsterFlyTrap.com.

On The Fly Automation

When your fly control tactics just can’t seem to keep those pesky flying insects away from your horses and out of your barn, it’s time to bring in the big guns and treat yourself and your horse to a fly-free environment with an automatic twist.

The Pyranha SprayMaster SM55 and SM30 Automatic Spray Systems consists of a 1/2 horsepower electric motor-driven pump controlled by a solid state electronic timer that is programmed to dispense an insecticide formulation in the form of a very fine mist at specific intervals through special spray nozzles. The result is a state of the art, hassle-free solution to control of harmful flying and biting insects in and around horse barns.

Carl Cunningham, Pyranha Incorporated’s founder created and patented the first automatic misting system in 1972 for the control of flies in horse barns and called it SprayMaster. More than three decades later the basic SprayMaster design is still the model for all misting systems in the market.

The SprayMaster uses Pyranha’s very own 1-10 HP™ brand insecticide for 55-gallon systems and 1-10 HPS™ for 30-gallon systems. Because they are formulated with high quality pyrethrums and Permethrin (a synthetic form of pyrethrum) both 1-10 HP™ and 1-10 HPS™ are considered premium formulations that control a wide range of insects.

Since Pyrethrum is an insecticide derived from a plant extract, Pyrethrum has shown to have a low level of toxicity to mammals. This family of insecticides is EPA registered for use in many household products and livestock treatment as well for treating unwanted pests in edible plants and fruits.

So when heavy artillery is needed to control your fly infestation, go automatic with the SprayMaster.
