A Redesign For Western Shooting Horse
The more things change, the more they stay the same is an old adage referring to a state of change that really isn’t. In the case of Western Shooting Horse, a big new change has come in the form of a redesign of the magazine–but our mission stays the same.
Starting with this issue readers will find a completely new layout of departments that we believe better defines our goal of bringing great information and insight about the competitions, the products and the people that make up the shooting horse sports.
We also believe that it better relates to our growing online presence and active community that actually steers our ideas in a multitude of directions.
Our first new section, All Arenas, dives right into the meat of the shooting horse sports covering the Competition, People, Horses, Guns, Training and Shooting Horsemanship. We have specifically laid out these sections with tabs crossing the top of each article as if it were a web page.
This new layout gives better focus to our editors and writers to get the information that is of most interest to our readers. Articles are put together in concise packages that are not too wordy but packed with the information readers can use and enjoy. It also helps the reader by tracking the articles in an easy to find format that is organized and managed with efficiency.
All Arenas leads into the Competition Sidekick department, where our editors get down to the nitty-gritty on subjects including Competition Techniques from top competitors, Gear Repair with tricks to get the most out of your equipment, Road Tips offering advice for smoother and safer journeys, and In Season advice on seasonal issues affecting the mounted shooter.
And we don’t stop there. Our Best Guide section covers new areas each issue with its very own departments. Road Test will ask top competitors to try out new products and evaluate them based on a criterion of usefulness and durability. In the Editor’s Picks section we will compile our favorite competition products and explain the benefits so readers can make informed purchase decisions. In First Looks we will bring the latest technology and products to the forefront, and in our Buyers Guide we will make suggestions on products we think are suitable for use in the various shooting horse sports.
Like any redesign, look for things to keep changing for the better. As the sports continue to grow, so do the opportunities for coverage in Western Shooting Horse. We’re positive you will like the new offerings and will continue to expand our horizons, making each issue better than the last.
We’d love to hear your thoughts and comments on the new layout. Please send an email to ken@wshmag.com and let me know what you think.
